§ 75

Support for parents with children in care

Under Section 75 of the Danish Social Services Act, parents whose children are in care may be offered a support worker. I help you create clarity and structure, process difficult emotions, and strengthen your role as a parent during the placement – in close, constructive collaboration with the local authority and other professionals.

§ 75 – Support for parents

Support during your child’s placement in care

Under Section 75 of the Danish Social Services Act, parents whose children are in care may be offered a support worker. The aim is to strengthen parents in a situation that can be emotionally and practically demanding. When a child is placed in care, everyday life can change significantly, and it can be difficult to keep a sense of overview, calm and direction through worry and grief.

As a support worker, I help create structure and clarity so it becomes easier to understand what needs to happen when, and what the next steps might be. I support you in working through difficult emotions and reactions connected to the placement, and in strengthening your role as a parent in a new situation. This can include finding ways to remain present as a parent when your child is not living at home, and maintaining the relationship in a safe and responsible way.

The support can also focus on helping you put words to your needs and concerns, so it becomes easier to navigate the many conversations and decisions that often follow a placement.

A key part of the support can be help with collaboration and communication with the local authority and other professionals. I support you in gaining an overview of meetings, agreements and expectations, so communication is as clear and constructive as possible. For some, it can be a great help to prepare for meetings, understand information, and reflect on what you want to say or ask.

I also support preparation for contact/supervised contact, helping to create safe frameworks before, during and after contact sessions. This can involve making space for what feels difficult, while keeping the focus on the child’s wellbeing and the relationship between parent and child. We also work with reflection on parenting, resources and areas for development – building on what already works and what can be strengthened going forward.

The support is tailored to each parent’s needs and the specific situation. The aim is to create greater safety and stability during a challenging period and to support a constructive collaboration around the child’s wellbeing.
